How would buying a stock work? I pay a fee for the stock, and pay for the current share price? Once I bought the stock, do I have to keep making payments on it???

Also, what is a good stock trading company. I see all these companies like scotttrade and all that, I just want a company that I can buy my stocks from and not have to pay a ton of fees and what not…

Thanks

Thank you all, in particular Suzanne for all the tips and Lucas for the Robot. That robot thing is intriguing. Is it for real? Anybody heard of forexapt.com?

I’m invested in ONT and have now recieved 4 proxies inwhich I continued to vote against the ONT google merger. Why have I recieved four proxies? Also forthe first time today the stock has begun trading over the BOD’s agreed .60 purchase price. Why is this and is this a sign of some sort. Maybe a higher bid? Any info is thankful!

I’m learning how to trade stocks online. When I go to the website, there are five ways to order: ‘market’ (which I think means I buy and sell the stock at the market price), but what about ‘limit’, ’stop limit’, ’stop’, and ‘trailing stop’? And re: transactions, I can buy and sell, but what does it mean to ’short’ and ‘cover’? (How are those different from buying and selling?) And for duration, there is ‘day’ and ‘GTC’–to what do these refer? Thanks for any help you can offer.

I will probably only make a few trades per year. l might not make any trades for a long time after I buy my initial stocks. I like the buy and hold stategy. Also I would like to earn interest on my account while it is not invested.
